Quasi Experiment

Cards (5)

  • Quasi experiment
conducted in lab/field, Iv not manipulated-occurs naturally, two types:
    natural experiments
    test of difference
  • natural experiments
naturally occurring IV that has come abt with input from person (e.g. weight, divorce)
  • test of difference
IV is differences between partic that they're born with (e.g. gender, visual ability)
  • Strengths
    • conducted when ethically/practically IV can't be manipulated, DV still measured, cause & effect relationship can be inferred
internal reliability: consistency in procedures, standardised procedures = replication
    • insight into naturally occurring phenomenon that would be unethical to manipulate = higher mundane relaism = higher eco validity
  • Weaknesses
cause + effect relationship established, results lower internal validity, limited control of confounding variables (enviro + partic)
    • partic not randomly allocated into groups = quasi isn't true experiment
