Conflict management theories

• Conflict management theories are based on two theories. Traditional theory and the contemporary theory
• The traditional theory assumed that conflict is bad, caused by trouble makers and should be avoided
• The contemporary theory recognises that conflict between humans is unavoidable.
• Traditional Theory:

  • Troublemakers cause conflict
  • Conflict is bad
  • Conflict should be avoided
• Contemporary Theory:

  • Conflict is inevitable between humans
  • Conflict is often beneficial
  • Conflict is the natural result of change and it can be managed
