appearance vs reality

• In Chapter 7, night progresses throughout the chapter, symbolising the darkness overcrowding the boys, showing their group dynamic, they cant see each other literally and emotionally, blinded by their various ambitions
• fear brings them together unanimously
• the beast is a channel of their fears and outlet of their problems
• the beast represents fear and how it turns from an external, tangible fear to an internal fear fueled by imagination
• anything that causes them fear is the beast
