Research Issues

    Cards (6)

    • What are Extraneous Variables?
Nuisance variables that make it difficult to detect an effect.
    • What is a Confounding Variable?
A variable that changes with the IV. A researcher can be unsure if the change in the DV is due to the IV or the CV.
    • What are Demand Characteristics?
Where the participants change their behaviours in order to 'please' or 'screw' the researcher.
    • What are Investigator Effects?
When the researcher consciously/unconsciously has an outcome on the research due to their behaviour.
    • What is Randomisation?
Using chance in investigations as a control.
    • What is Standardisation?
Using the same procedures on all participants, differences would become EVs.
