Seperable verbs

• Made up of 2 parts:

  • prefix (goes to the end)
  • verb

  eg:

  einkaufen (to shop)

  Ich kaufe jeden Tag ein.
• After a subordinate conjunction (ie dass, weil), they join together at the end
• Most common seperable prefixes: 


  • Ab____= taking something away
  • An____= at or on
  • Auf____= up
  • Aus____= out
  • Ein____= in
  • Mit____= with
  • Um____= to change
  • Zu____= adding to it
