  • The river Tees is an important river in the north east of England. Its source is high in the Pennine Hills near Cross Fell. From there it flows roughly east for around 128km to reach the North Sea. at Middlesborough.
  • The estuary of the River Tees is a huge and home to one of the largest container ports in the UK. It is also very flat and ideal for the industry of Middlesborough
  • Landforms of the upper valley include:
    • V SHAPED VALLEYS, INTERLOCKING SPURS, SOME SMALL WATERFALLS
    • VERY SMALL TRIBUTARIES AND STREAMS
  • The River Tees also has a high force, a large waterfall where hard whin sill overlies linestone which erodes faster
  • In the middle reaches the gradient levels out and we can find Ox Bow lakes where there are many meanders around the town of Yarm
