HOW A COURT WORKS

• 1. The judge reads the 'case papers' before the hearing
• 2. During the hearing in court, the judge with hear evidence and legal arguments
• 3. At the end of the hearing, the judge will decide on:

  • liability - 'who wins'
  • The compensation payable OR
  • Any other remedy which has been requested
  • Who pays for the costs if the case
• A judge may be biased due to:

  • race
  • religion
  • emotions
  • the case itself
