cells

Cards (19)

  • All living things are made of cells. Cells can be prokaryotic or eukaryotic.

Eukaryotic cells are complex and include all animal and plant cells. Prokaryotic cells are smaller and simple.
  • eukaryotes are organisms that are made up of eukaryotic cells.

    a prokaryote is a prokaryotic cell (it’s a single-celled organism)
  • plant and animal cells have similarities and differences.
  • the different parts of a cell are called sub cellular structure.
  • most animal cells have the following sub cellular structures; nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria, ribosome.
  • plant cells usually have all the bits animal cells don’t, plus a few extra things. most have the following sub cellular structures; cell wall, vacuole, chloroplasts, nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria, ribosomes.
  • Nucleus - contains genetic material (DNA) that controls the activities of the cell.
  • Cytoplasm - gel-like substance where most chemical reactions happen. It contains enzymes that control these chemical reaction.
  • Cell membrane - controls what goes in and out of the cell and holds the cell together.
  • Mitochondria - where most of the reactions for aerobic respiration take place. Respiration transfers energy that cells need to work.
  • Ribosomes - where proteins are made in the cell.
  • cell wall - made of cellulose and supports the cell and strengthens it.
  • Permanent vacuole - contains cell sap and a weak solution of sugar and salts.
  • Chloroplasts - where photosynthesis occurs.
  • Bacteria cells are much smaller than animal and plant cells.

    Bacteria cells are prokaryotes.
  • Most bacterial cells are made up of the following sub cellular structure; cytoplasm, cell membrane, cell wall and a singular strand of DNA. They may also include plasmids.
