  • Metabolic recovery partly determines cardiopulmonary recovery
  • Blood supply is critical to recovery e.g.:
    • Oxygen for Phosphagens
    • Glucose for Glycogen resynthesis
  • Several factors influence recovery rate & completeness, including
    • Personal (e.g. Training status)
    • Environmental (e.g. Heat, Altitude, Cold water immersion)
    • Exercise (e.g. Intensity & duration)
  • Tapering
    • Effective manner to reduce load , retain enough stimulus to maintain adaptation but allow maximal recovery (think glycogen reserves, protein synthesis - enzymes etc)
