Environmental Determinism

Cards (2)

  • Define Environmental determinism
The belief that behaviour is determined by environmental/external influences such as learning.
  • What did Skinner argue
Skinner argued that free will was an illusion and argued that all of behaviour is a result of conditioning both operant and punishment we experience. Although we might think we are acting independently, our behaviour has been shaped by environmental events as well as agents of socialisation e.g. parents and teachers
