  • ASTRA is a bottom up project that set up biogas plants, which use cow manure, to produce fuel. This is helpful as it reduces the workload for women.
  • The biogas plants in India are an example of intermediate technology, they are made from materials found in India and can be put in a village without impact.
  • The ASTRA biogas plants have created 200,000 jobs across India, there is less smoke, microorganisms that develop disease have been destroyed and farmer now get three rounds of crops annually.
  • Disadvantages of ASTRA include: it only impacts a small area and doesn't address national issues on its own.
