Esters

• Carboxylic acid + Alcohol (+ acid catalyst) -> Ester
• Esters have the functional group of -COO
• Esters are usually used for perfumes or flavourings
• How do you name an ester?


  The Alcohol part (-yl) then the acidic part (-noate) e.g:
