  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) occurs when the median nerve at the wrist is compressed by thickened flexor sheath, skeletal encroachment, edema or soft tissue mass

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Clinical Manifestion
    • (+) Tinels sign - tingling sensation on percussion of inner wrist
    • (+) Phalew's sign - tingling sensation on holding the wrist in flexion for few minutes
    • Pain from the wrist to the shoulder
    • Fingers affected: Thumb, index, and middle
    • Numbness, paresthesia, weak grip of hands
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Management
    • Rest and splint the affected wrist
    • AVOID repetitive flexion of the wrist
    • NSAIDs as prescribed - for pain
    • Injections: Carpal canal cortisone
    • Surgical release of transverse carpal ligament
