  • Denmark - National cohort study of 2.7 million people born in Denmark alive in 1968 onwards and 10 years old or more by 2007.
  • Sample - 196 couples both hospitalised with schizophrenia by a ICD 8 or 10 diagnosis
    83 couples both hospitalised with bipolar by a ICD 8 or 10 diagnosis
    Not a low sample size as the target population are rare
  • Social sensitivity very high - Makes people with these conditions not want to have kids so they don't pass the condition to them
  • 196 - 270 children - 27.3% chance + 39.2% schizophrenia related + 7% if only one parent + 0.86% if no parents
  • 83 - 146 children - 24.9% chance + 36% negative symptoms + 4.4% one parent + 0.48% if no parents
  • Chance of any hospitalised offspring due to their parents conditions:
    Schizophrenia - 67.5%
    Bipolar - 44.2%
