Cards (7)

    • Anaerobic respiration equation in animals
      glucose (C6H12O6) --> lactic acid
    • Anaerobic respiration in plants
      glucose (C6H12O6) --> ethanol + carbon dioxide (CO2)
    • Aerobic respiration equation
      glucose + oxygen --> carbon dioxide + water
    • Where does aerobic respiration take place?
      In the mitochondria
    • What does the process of respiration do?
      Respiration is an exothermic reaction that takes place in living cells and produces energy from nutrient molecules. Produces ATP in living organisms.
    • What does ATP do?
      Provides energy for cells, many cellular processes require it for energy.
    • Differences between aerobic and anaerobic respiration:
      • Aerobic requires/uses oxygen, anaerobic does not require/is used when there is not enough oxygen.
      • Anaerobic respiration does not yield as much energy as aerobic respiration.
      • Anaerobic respiration is only used as a last resort, e.g. during a sprint where it is difficult to breathe in enough oxygen.
