  • Dinnington is located in South Yorkshire.
  • In the 1900s, Dinnington's jobs were mainly based in the primary sector, whereas in the 2000s, jobs were mainly based in the quaternary sector. This decreased wages.
  • Loss of industry has caused coal to become expensive to mine as it is too deep in the ground, so little coal is now produced in the Dinnington region. The coal mine has turned into a business park, creating 1700 jobs.
  • Low salary tertiary jobs tend to be on the outer regions of towns, whilst high paid tertiary jobs tend to be located where there are highly educated and skilled staff, as well as good IT and broadband.
  • There are 4 key factors that cause changes to economic sectors:
    • de-industrialisation
    • increased education and qualifications
    • higher disposable incomes
    • automation of industry
  • A knowledge economy is an economy based on specialised knowledge and skill.
  • A new rural economy is when a knowledge economy is no longer tied to cities due to covid 19, as working at home is a more viable option. This prevents people from having to commute.
  • Benefits of the new rural economy include: people can work from rural areas and connect with people all over the world. Negatives of the new rural economy include: there is little to no social aspect.
