  • Statute Law
    Acts of parliament.
    Can be changed with a majority vote in parliament.
    HoL can delay changes.
    Some more or less likely to be change due to public pressure.
  • Common Law
    Refers to legal principles made by judges in their rulings.
    Future judges abide by these, even though never formally stated.
    Can be overridden by statute law.
  • Convention
    Customs and practices that have no legal forces, 'they've always been done'. E.g, PM coming from commons not lords.
    Can be set easily.
    Can just as be easily ignored.
  • Authoritative Works
    Written works that inform parliamentary procedure and practices.
    E.g, The English Constitution by Bagehot.
    Somewhat formalised, harder to ignore.
    No legal weight, can be ignored.
  • Treaties
    All international treaties that the UK is a signatory of.
    Theocratically limit parliaments power.
    However can be ignored, sovereignty.
