Neurons

• There are 3 types of neurons:

  • sensory
  • Relay
  • Motor
• Neurons are nerve cells
• There are 100 billion neurons in the human nervous system
• 80% of these are located in the brain
• By transmitting signals electrically and chemically, these neurons provide the nervous system with its primary means of communication
• Neurons are information messengers and they use electrical and chemical signals to send information between different areas of the brain, as well as between the brain, the spinal cord and the entire body
