  • These are nerve cells that carry nerve impulses from the sensory receptors towards the CNS and the brain
  • When the nerve impulses reach the brain they are translated into sensations such as vision, hearing, taste and touch
  • Sensory information can either be physical or chemical
  • Sensory neurons can only transmit messages one way and cannot receive messages
    • They have long dendrites and short axons
    • The cell body is usually to the side of the cell
    • The role of sensory neurons is to send information to the brain from the peripheral nervous system (PNS) towards the central nervous system (CNS)
    • They keep the brain informed about the external and internal environment information coming from the sense organs
