• Polymers are Made of many monomers joined together by covalent bonds to form long chains
• To name the polymer you take the name of the monomer and then put “poly” in front of it e.g. ethene makes poly(ethene

• Polymers do not conduct electricity as they do not have an overall charge
• The longer the polymer chain the higher the melting point
• As the length in Polymers increases there are more intermolecular forces of attraction between the polymer chains so more energy is required to overcome these forces
• Polymers Have various properties: electrical insulators, waterproof, flexible, some are strong
• Polymers are used in: plastic bags, bottles, washing up bowls, non-stick pans, clothing…..
