  • What is an independent variable?

    The variable that is directly manipulated or changed by the researcher.
  • What is the dependent variable?

    The variable hat is being measured in a study.
  • What is operationalisation?

    Making the variables in an investigation, detailed and specific.
    -important so the IV and DV can be easily testable and measurable.
  • What is an extraneous variable?

    A variable that in not controlled, which could affect the results of a study.
    It can be situational or participant.
  • Participant variable?

    differences between the participants themselves such as height, birthday that don't affect the study but others ( intelligence, level of education) might make a big difference.
  • Situational variable?

    a characteristic that differs across environments or stimuli (weather etc.)
  • Confounding variable ?

    a factor other than the independent variable that might produce an effect in an experiment which can lead to unreliable findings.
