  • Impact on Germany after WW1
    • 2 million German troops died
    • Over 4 million were wounded (Total of 11 million fought)
    • Government debts increased to 50 billion marks to 150 billion marks
    • More than 750,000 Germans died because of food shortages
    • After the Kaiser had abdicated the German republic was declared on November 9, 1918
    • Phillip Scheidemann of the SDP, the largest party in the German government declared the new republic to the crowds
    • Berlin streets were crowded of which some people were armed in chance to take over parts of the city
  • The armistice-peace treaty
    • Signed on the 11th of November
    • Became first major decision of Ebert‘s new republic, however it would lead to become a very big burden for the entire country
