Focus of Libido is on the anus as this is when potty training takes places. It is the first time the child has any sort of control through the expulsion and retention of faeces. According to Freud, success at this stage is dependent upon the way parents approach the toilet training; parents who punish, ridicule or shame a child for their accidents may encourage an anal retentive personality and parents who are too lenient impose an anal expulsive personality.
