    The thyroid gland in the neck
  • Why is thyroxine released?

    To regulate the basal metabolic rate and stimulate protein synthesis for growth and development
  • How is thyroxine released?

    Through negative feedback in response to TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) which is secreted from the pituitary gland
  • What happens if there is too much thyroxine in the blood?

    TSH secretion is inhibited which reduces the thyroxine production
