Late 19th Century - Gilbert Scott carried out restoration work -> to make the cathedral more appropriate for Victorian Anglican worship
Scott was commissioned because -> people were beginning to question other possibilities to the creation of life. They may have wanted to make Anglican Dogma more appealing
Lady Chapel changes:
whitewash was scrapped off the walls
new east window with elaborate design
lectern, reading desk and benches were added
Choir changes:
Seats and stalls were removed
Lectern was installed
New redos with elaborate design, made from marble and alabaster and adorned with precious stones.
Reredos depicted:
Centre -> Ascension of the apostles
Side -> Descent of the holy ghost upon the disciples
