  • BF Skinner (1953)
Positive Reinforcement - The rat will accidentally knock the lever in a box, which would cause the dispenser to release food and make the rat satisfy the primary reinforcer of food. This encourages the rat to press the lever, and it also adds something so an example of positive reinforcement.
  • B.F Skinner (1953)
Negative Reinforcement - The electric bars would administer mild electric shocks to the rat which could be stopped with the rat pulling the lever. This encourages the rat to pull the lever to avoid the negative experience. It is negative reinforcement as the lever takes away the electric shock and encourages behaviour.
