• what is the aim of this practicle?


  compare the insulating ability of different types of material or numbers of layers
• step 1 :

  wrap a beaker or can of hot water in increasing layers or different types of insulation with an optional lid
• step 2 :


  pour freshly-boiled water from a kettle into the beaker and wait until temperature reaches chosen starting temperature (e.g. 80'c)
• step 3 :

  start stopclock and record temperature after chosen time (e.g. 5 mins) or record temp every (e.g. 20) secs
• step 4 :


  plot graph of numbers of layers against temp or plot cooling curves against time, data for type of insulation could also be in a bar chart
