SHC

• step 1 :

  place beaker on top pan balance and measure out 1000g of vegatable oil
• step 2 :

  place thermometer in the beaker with oil, record starting temperature and insulate the beaker
• step 3:

  place the beaker on an electric heater and turn on the joule metre, then turn on the heater and start a timer
• step 4:

  every minute record the joules on the joulemeter for 10 minutes and after turn off the heater, joulemeter and timer
• step 5:


  record the final temperature and calculate the change in temperature (final - start) and calculate the mean number of joules of the energy (sum of all recorded/ 10)
• step 6 :

  calculate the SHC of the oil by using the equation: energy/ mass x change in temp
