Forces and motion

Cards (11)

  • Weight is the force exerted on a mass by gravitational field
  • Mass is how much matter is in an object
  • Force is a vector
  • Resultant force is the overall force on an object.
  • Force is represented as arrows. Aswell, the length of the arrows shows how strong the force Is. The directions of the arrow shows the direction the force is heading
  • Stopping distance = thinking distance + braking distance
  • Ice / rain / worn tyres increases the stopping distace as the force between the round and the tyre is less. This is because there is less frictions to crease a resistance to slow down / stop
  • Newtons 1st law is of zero resultant force acts on an abject the object will remain stationary or object moves at a constant speed in a straight line
  • Newtons 2nd law is if there is a resultant force acting in an object
    • The object accelerates in the direction of the resultant force
    • The acceleration is directly proportional to the resultant force
    • The acceleration is inversely proportional to the objects mass.
  • Newtons 3rd law is when two objects interact , the force they exert on each other are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction
  • 9.8 m/s^2 is gravity
