Life cycle of stars the size of the sun

Cards (5)

  • after the star has been in the main sequence for a certain period of time hydrogen begins to run out o the outward force from nuclear fusion is less than the inward gravity force
  • the star collapses inwards causing the temp to increase making the helium nuclei fuse creating heavier elements and he starts expands forming the red giant
  • eventually the red giant stops fusing helium nuclei and the star shrinks forming the white dwarf
  • since the white dwarf doesn’t carry out fusion it gradually cools down
  • finally it stops releasing energy and forms the black dwarf
