  Tumor is excised and removed

• Radical Mastectomy


  Removal of the entire breast, the nipple, areola, lymph nodes under the arm, and the chest wall muscles (pectoralis major and minor)
• Simple or Total Mastectomy


  Removal of the entire breast, including the nipple, areola, and skin, but not the lymph nodes under the arm or the chest muscles.
• Modified Radical Mastectomy 


  Removal of the entire breast, including the nipple, areola, and some of the lymph nodes under the arm (axillary lymph nodes). The chest muscles are spared.
