Nominativ

• The nominative is the default setting for nouns (nominative=normal)
• Use the nominative for the SUBJECT (the person/thing doing the action) of the sentence

  For example:

  'The dog ate the meat'

  'The dog' is the subject, so must be in the nominative case
• EVERY SUBJECT of a sentence is in the nominative
• Use the nominative after any form of:

  • bleiben
  • sein
  • werden
• The pronouns 'ich' , 'du' , 'er/sie/es/man' , 'wir' , 'ihr' , and 'Sie/sie' are all NOMINATIVE
