  • They speed up chemical reactions without being used up
• • Enzymes are large proteins of long amino acid chains
• Lock and key:

  • Substrate binds to active site because active site and substrate are complementary
  • So a reaction occurs to break down substrate
• • If the PH is too high or low, the bonds holding the enzyme together will bream
  • This changes the shape of the active site, denaturing the enzyme
• • If the temperature is too high, the bonds holding the enzyme together will break
  • So, the active site wo be changed and the enzyme will denature
