Variables/hypotheses

Cards (10)

  • IV is what the researcher changes in an experiment
  • DV is what is measured in an experiment
  • Extraneous variables are variables that are not the IV but still affect the DV
  • Participants variables -differences between people that may affect the DV
  • Situational variables - differences in the environment that may affect the DV
  • Experimenter variables - the experimenters conscious or unconscious bias/influence
  • A null hypothesis is a prediction that states no relationship between the variables
  • An alternate hypothesis states that there is a difference between variables
  • Non directional hypothesis [two tailed] states a difference but not what it will be
  • Directional hypothesis [one tailed] states a difference and what it will be
