      when witnesses discuss with each other so they combine misinformation to cause altering and distortion

      when witnesses go along with each other to gain social approval/ they think they can’t be right. memories are unchanged

      some participants were put in pairs and some stayed individually. they all watched what they thought was the same film but the pairs films were different- only one showed a crime. paired participants discussed and everyone did a questionnaire
    • findings of Gabberts research? 

      71% in pairs recalled info they didn’t see
      60% said the person in the film was guilty when they couldn’t have seen it
      0% saw the crime in the control group
    • limitations of Gabberts research? 

      stimulus lacks mundane realism- not the same affect as real events
      low ecological validity- watched closely because they knew they were being tested
