  • 1917, SPD questioned the war as they saw it as non-defensive
  • Kaiser had appointed Lundendorff and Hindenburg (government generals) to not be defensive.
  • Lundendorff had urged a immediate armistice AND for there to be a transfer of power from kaiser to reichstag.
  • They wanted to transfer blame onto the reichstag and remove responsibility away from government and onto the socialists = dolchtoss
  • They wanted to get a better settlement from allies as a new democracy hoping to get more sympathy.
