Tracheostomy Care
Air is not filtered and humidified therefore, a mist collar or a 4 x 4 gauze may be held in place with a cotton tie over the stoma to filter the air as it enters.
Soak inner cannula in antiseptic soak with half strength hydrogen peroxide, rinse well with NSS
Tie new tie before removing the old tie to prevent accidental dislodgement
Dry by tapping only, DO NOT use gauze
Suction as needed and do oral care frequently

If the outer cannula is dislodged, retract stoma and NOTIFY physician

Obturator - guide; must always be available at bedside
Inner Cannula - cleaned during tracheostomy care
