  • What is the joint capsule and its function?

    Made of an inner synovial layer and outer fibrous layer - protects internal structure of the joint
  • What is the synovial membrane and its function? 

    Lines the inside of the joint capsule - releases synovial fluid to lubricate the joint, preventing friction
  • What is the cartilage and its function? 

    Cushioning tissue on the surface of bones - prevents the bones from rubbing together, allowing smooth articulation of movement

    Small sacs of fluid between tendons and bones - reduces friction and relieves wear and tear on joints

    Join bone to bones - provides stability to protect against sprains and bone dislocations during forceful impact on joint

    A natural lubricant - released into the joint cavity preventing friction between bones
