Firstly, measure 30cm^3 of the acid into a beaker and then add a powderedmetal (or oxide, hydroxide, carbonate) in excess (when there is unreacted powder left) to ensure that all acid has reacted.
Secondly, filter the mixture to remove excessmetal.
Thirdly, gentelyheat the solution in a evaporatingbasin over a waterbath. Stop heating when smallcrystals start to form around the edge.
Finally, leave the solution overnight to form large crystals. If necessary the crystals could be dabbed gently with a papertowel.
For this practical the acid and metal/oxide/hydroxide/carbonate that needs to be used will be based on the salt that needs to be made.
