Temperature change method;
Firstly, add 25cm^3 of
hydrochloric
acid
into a
polystyrene
cup
and place cup inside
beaker
and put
cotton
wool
between cup and wool.
Secondly, measure the
initial
temperature
of hydrochloric acid.
Then, measure
5cm
^3 of
sodium
hydroxide
and add to polystyrene cup and quickly place a
lid
and
gently
stir.
Place a
thermometer
through the whole in the lid and when the temperature stops
changing
record
it.
Finally, repeat steps 1-7 with
different
volumes of sodium hydroxide, and then repeat again to have a
mean
of each volume.
To measure temperature more precisely use a
digital thermometer
and to be more reliable the
repeat
the experiment.
