Ash as a Symbol

• • When it's revealed that Ash is in fact an android, he becomes objectified, and becomes a symbol.
  • Upon Ripley's realization that he's been programmed to bring the Alien back to Earth, she sees Ash as a symbol of people who value progress over human interest.
  • He becomes a stand in for the company who employed the crew- who don't particularly care if they die in order to bring the Alien back to Earth.
• • Ash acts like a human, but just has no humane qualities. He looks down on people for their 'delusions of morality'.
• • Ash becomes a symbol for progress and science- to the extent that progress and science come at the expense of humanity and human interest.
