Humanists argue that external cause don’t set our behaviours
Instead we have personal agency, the ability of individuals to shape their own lives through conscious decision making
Separates out what is the intention of an individual from what has been created by other causes
Humanists believe we are self- determining and have free will
This means we aren’t affected by external/ internal factors but we are active agents who determine our own behaviour
it ignores Science and the general laws that are developed from this
Free will is the third force in psychology
Humans are able to make their own decisions and aren’t determined by environmental or biological factors
Humanists reject the scientific models that try to generalise human behaviour
Humanistpsychologists believe that we as individuals are all unique, therefore the ways of studying should be unique and subjective to personal experience too
