Duplication – a section of a chromosome is added from its homologous partner.
(You inherit 2 copies of each chromosome, one from each biological parent. These chromosomes are homologous partners. For example, in this type of mutation part of chromosome 1 is added to the other chromosome 1.)
2. Deletion is where a section of the chromosome is removed.
3. Inversion is where a section chromosome is reversed.
4. Translocation is where a section of a chromosome is added to a chromosome, not its homologous partner.
The substantial changes in chromosome mutations often make them lethal.
