memory structure

    • Memory processing involves the processing of sensory information from the environment through the five senses: sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell. This information is then encoded into an electrochemical memory trace which can be used and stored by the brain, which can be stored for seconds or a lifetime. The storage process involves the retention of information in the memory system, while retrieval involves the recall of stored memories. The output of memory processing is the information recalled and its behavioral response.
    • Sensory Memory
The initial storage of sensory information from the environment. Information is held in sensory memory for a brief period (milliseconds to seconds).
    • Long-Term Memory
Permanent storage of information. Information is stored for an extended period, potentially a lifetime.
