  • 'Tight fisted'- Scrooge holds onto his money and doesn't by things for others.
  • 'Scrooge had a very small fire, but the clerk's fire was so very small that it looked like one coal'- He doesn't like spending money even though he had a lot and is selfish towards Bob Chratchit.
  • How Scrooge treats his nephew:
    • Very negative towards him, even though Fred is nice to him- 'Leave me alone then.'
    • Thinks that it is silly that his nephew got married- "Because you fell in love!' growled Scrooge, as if it were the only thing in the world more ridiculous"
    • Can't take Fred seriously.
  • Scrooge's attitude towards Christmas:
    • Hates it-"Merry Christmas" on his lips should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holy through his heart. He should!'
    • 'Bah! Humbug!'
  • 'Scrooge never painted out Old Marley's name'-
    • Scrooge is unbothered
    • He doesn't want to spend money
    • He wants to keep is memory
    • Doesn't want to let him go
    • May take his pride in it

    • Wants to be on his own

  • Physical appearance:
    • 'Shrivelled his cheek'
    • 'Nipped his pointed nose'
    • Image of an old man
    • Physical appearance is unpleasant
  • 'He iced his office in the dog-days and didn't thaw one degree at Christmas'-
    • When he goes into a room it makes it cold and stiff.
    • Even in the hottest days he makes it feel cold.
    • Doesn't make exceptions to celebrations.
    • Not a pleasant environment.

    • Clutching- grasping onto something.
