Who was William Harvey  
he studied medicine in both Cambridge and Padua (Italy)
through dissection and detailed observation he developed new ideas about physiology.
in 1628 he published his book ' An anatomical account of the motion of the heart and blood' in which he proved blood circulated around the body

Arteries- proved arteries had a one-way system for blood
Veins- take blood back to the heart
Experient-proved through repeating experiments
Dissection- showed Vesalius was right in the importance of dissection

discovery gradually accepted by few

1670s Universities taught Harveys ideas rather than Galens
others built upon his ideas i.e proved how poison spread around the body
Professor Marcello Malpighi used one of the first effective microscopes to discover capillaries using Harvey's methods
How was Harvey limited  
After he published his work less patients came to see him
people didn't want to go against Galen
he couldn't explain why anything happened
