    A body of experts brought together to investigate economic, social and political issues. They can be neutral or have an open political affiliation.
    Often act as a springboard into politics.
    Don't overtly campaign, but influence public policy and debate.
    Typically initiate their own work and seek funding for it.
    Main output is publication of their findings.
  • Improve democracy
    Allows proper research of issues adding legitimacy.
    Allows the public to see a wide range of issues.
    Allows for follow representation.
  • Unhealthy democracy
    May lead to bias, since many have preset views.
    Relationship between think tanks and politicians is not always clear, decreasing legitimacy.
