Paul Broca - 1860

• Tan spoke a single word which was " Tan "
• Broca performed an autopsy which found tissue damage in the left hemisphere of Tan's brain
• The damaged area is now known as Brocas Area
• Broca looked at 12 more brains with Tan's symptoms all of which showed the same damage
• Conclusion was made that language ( cognitive process ) starts in the left hemisphere
