PAG3 - Trolley on a ramp

Cards (5)

  • Variables in this experiment
    • Independent variable ( what are you changing), height of the ramp.
    • Dependant variable ( what are you measuring), time it takes to cover a certain distance.
    • Control variable ( what are you keeping the same), ramp, trolley
  • Equipment needed
    • Trolley
    • Ramp
    • Timer
    • Books
    • Ruler
  • Method
    1. Set the ramp at a height of 10cm.
    2. Place the trolley at the top of the ramp.
    3. Release the trolley and start the timer.
    4. Stop the timer when the trolley reachers the bottom.
    5. Record the time. ( do it 3 time with the same height)
    6. Increase ramp height by 10cm and repeat experiment
  • Conclusion
    • As the ramps height increases so does the acceleration of the trolley increases.
  • Improvements and errors
    • Don't use book for ensuring height as it is not precise
    • Use light gates for accurate and better results than the human reaction time.
