  • What are the indications for a packed RBC infusion?

    Bleeding
    Anaemia

  • What are the indications for platelet transfusions?
    To treat/prevent bleeding in pts with thrombocytopaenia
  • What are the indications of fresh frozen plasma (FFP) infusions?
    Bleeding due to multiple clotting factor deficiencies (disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC))
    Inherited clotting factor deficiencies (Factor V deficiency) where a clotting factor concentrate is not yet available
  • What is cryoprecipitate?
    Made from fresh frozen plasma which is frozen & repeatedly thawed in lab to produce concentrated clotting factors (Factor VIII, vWF, fibrinogen)
  • What are the indications for cryoprecipitate transfusion?
    Bleeding associated with decreased fibrinogen levels, congenital or acquired dysfibrinogenaemia & DIC
  • What are the licensed medicinal products from human plasma donations?
    Human albumin solution
    Clotting factors concentrates/haemophilia products
    Immunoglobulin solutions
  • Patients who are not symptomatic should not be transfused.
